When you’re pining for an empire, but they’re giving you a niche it’s time for any writer worth his or her salt to start honing their kvetching skills. Without becoming a shmuck, naturally.
It’s all about remembering where you came from – the crappy jobs you’ve done while hoping for a break – and striving for something more. Clawing your way out of mediocrity towards recognition and success.
Grumbling about not being on The Daily Show is just another way of reminding myself that no matter what else happens to me, I’ll never, to paraphrase William Faulkner, find myself at the beck and call of any son of a bitch with two and a half bucks to sit down in a cab.
